my home

Santiago de los Caballeros, the second largest city in the Dominican Republic, is surrounded by mountains. Many places of interest are nearby and easy to get to, and it is just a little over an hour's drive to the Atlantic Coast. Known as La Ciudad Corazón, Santiago is the commercial and cultural center of the fertile Cibao Valley region. Although it is a growing city with a population exceeding 700,000, Santiago still retains many features of a small town and Santiaguero hospitality is alive and well.

Founded by noblemen of Columbus's early expeditions, the city has a rich historic and cultural tradition, including the creation of the commercially popular merengue music. Like many Dominican cities, Santiago boasts a diversity of lifestyles. Street vendors walk through residential neighborhoods carrying fruits, vegetables, and other goods in large baskets on their heads. Other merchants come all the way from the campo on donkeys loaded with baskets of goods and announce their wares in a nearly musical chant. The Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration is the city symbol and gathering place for a wide range of cultural activities. It is here that you can ride in a coche, a traditional horse-drawn carriage, for which Santiago is famous.

Connect

The sound of a warm, familiar voice. The touch of a trusted friend. The soft, springy feel of a new earth under your hands. When you're connected, life takes on meaning, purpose, synchronicity. It's the very real sense of things clicking into place, a hum along the wire. A rottedness. Connection isn't linear; its multidimensional, trascending time and circumstance. Wheather it strikes bright and sudden like lighting or illuminates your life with a steady, warm glow, true connection sustains you, carries you forward - can gives you a firm footing in the world.
