The Ceremony

Okay, here are Wedding Photos. They are a bit obscure, but my hope is that they portray at least a hint of the magic the evening was graced with.
I don't know the order they will show up in, but here are the descriptions
-Ceremony on the edge, ocean and sunset in the background
-Our Hawaiian friend who blew the conch in the four directions to mark the beginning of the ceremony-a Hawaiian tradition. A conch is blown every day at sunset, as well.
-My sister joined by her husband
-Silhouettes in the sunset (2)
-A sprinkle of rain- the Hawaiian blessing just as the celebration began, perfect timing
-The setting for the reception, within close view of the ceremonies location
-The wedding cake- vanilla sponge with passion fruit filling

Quotes.. my turn

The road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began
Now far ahead the road has gone
And I must follow, if I can

Pursuing it with weary feet
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet
And whither then? I cannot say

-JRR Tolkien

tangent from paradise

more important posts below! :)
Woe is me! I think I actually forgot to include 2 all time favorites in my movie list (which is now way out of the picture). They are just too important to not mention, though:
Finding Nemo
Lilo and Stitch
Check out the card I gave Son and Tim for their wedding: they call me "the little monster" but the description as to why is a bit complicated (unlike the reasoning behind beanhead) sweet, eh!
As for Finding Nemo, it was played into my head at Least 5 times while I was in AUS this past summer- and we just could not stop quoting it! The accents matched, the GB reef was right there, the pelicans, opera house, dentist. No just kidding. There were no turtles to be seen on that trip (dude, mr turtle is my father. call me crush) but i am at peace with that.

the fabulous CCC

Speaking of Sea Turtles, or honu, pronounced hoe'-new in Hawaiian, check out the following website: cccturtle.org This is the home site for the Caribbean Conservation Corporation where you can adopt a Turtle and give it as a gift, for example.
Do you realize how in danger they are? No matter where ISV (an Environmental Ed. program) sends students (Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, AUS, New Zealand, etc..) there is always a focus on sea turtles, basically the one surviving Dinosaur on the planet. It's a big deal! Check it out: cccturtle.org

jj's Hawaii Chronicles

What can I say? My words may not be very entertaining but I'll try to give short snippits for the days in paradise...

Day 1, Monday~ Travel day. full on, delays and all, with parents and grandparents. My feelings? I loved it =). We arrive, by the clock, 12 hours later. In reality: 18. Held my sister, shed a few tears, ate some bbq on the deck shown below. nada mas

Day 2, Tues~ Woke up at 5:30am STARVING, so I ate some quacomole and went back to bed.
Managed to get up, and went to yoga w/ sister-Sonja- and Sholeh- bridesmaid #3 (out of 3).
Finally- we went to the beach w/ about everyone that was here- and we were alllll out surfing. It was brilliant. I managed to last for, like, 3 hours (it was the sunshine) and realized only after I couldn't move my arms and my belly/knees were rubbed raw that I needed to save energy for a bachlorette party. Not to mention it was 10:30pm body-time. I about dozed on the board! photos: a blurry pic of my dad w/ his board, and a gorgeous wave- i was busy in the water and have no photos to prove my afternoon of ocean abuse. i'm confident that this wave is more exciting, anyway =)

Sansei Sushi bachlorette party. After our load of fish and saki, we met back up with the guys at Moose's, so Sonja and Tim were happily reunited!
photo: fancy sushi-notice the butterflies and flowers in the rolls!! not quite what we had, but it surely can't taste any better!!! My fav. planko-crusted ahi (or something like that)

Day 3, Wed~Upcountry Alii Kula Lavender Farm in Kula for a tour, plus some tea and scones. so good. Then moved on to Tedeschi Winery for a tasting of their "famous pineapple wine"- where we lucked into a tour there as well. It was just Sonja w/both sides of our family represented, as Tim had other plans for his. this photo especially cracks me up- notice to the right/center, the workers are enjoying glasses of the very wine they're making =) gotta test the product, eh! i love it!!
We stopped in little hippie windsurfer/kite-boarder town of Paia for some Mexican food, shopping, and checking out the amazing wind surfers off that side of the island. Then home to another bbq on the deck. We eventually saw a second of the Red Bull King of the Air competition. unbelievable.
wicked photo of Robbie Nash

Day 4, Thursday~ That evening, the event I had personally been looking way forward to, the Sunset Cruise. It was a catameran packed with 50, all a part of our party, except four randoms that melted into our wedding fiesta for the evening. quick photo: cheers!
Everyone wanted the evening to continue when the boat was docked, so we met at Kaanapali's Tiki Bar for the free hawaiian show and some goofing around.

Day 5, Friday~ The Luau. All out-of-town guests (basically everyone) were invited. It was the Royal Lahaina near Kaanapali. They interacted a bit with the audience, inviting us onstage to learn the Hula. ~My grandparents were honored with being the longest married couple there: 61 Years. They were glowing nearly as bright as Sonja and Tim =).
We were rained on- the "Hawaiian blessing." It was amazing, as the stars and moon were still shining bright! not good for photos, though..

Day 6, Saturday~ THE day-new post for this one... on its way

Hawaiian chronicles: part II

Day 7, Sunday~ Brunch at the Plantation. Big party again, and awesome food: crab cake benedict, ahi tuna benedicts, hawaiian bread french toast, guava mimosa, ect. I don't remember all the choices, but it was rich.
Another bbq that night, w/ more music from Tim's Irish cousin, Tim. Sonja even sang a bit! I missed it- I finally broke down and found a computer to buy my flight to Kauai for the next day. nothing like last minute work, eh!

Day 8-11, Mon-Thurs~ The Garden State. Kauai. 11 miles of the Napali coast line w/ a bunch o' goat hunters and some peanut butter and ramen. My hopes were hiiigh for the beach, but we never quite made it. The thrill of the hunt got in the way, I suppose. For all the glory of that beautiful hike, I've never been on a more trecherous trail!

Alright, photos:
Intimidating cliff that we had to conquer.

The great goat hunter #1.

awesome silhouette of the great goat hunter #2.

Waterfall background- we were surrounded by them.

Final shot: myself watching Steve w/ his goat (you can barely see it in there on the rock). I could say watching dinner (for real. that night.) but I feel like I may offend someone. sorry!!

We reached the 9 mile pt., but being that we were without water, lunch, and with little daylight, we made the sad but good decision to retreat.

I just use it as my excuse to return! Who's in?? no joke

Our final days were spent mainly on the beach. We sailed a hoby cat, ate an incredable dinner at IOs (the restaurant i Will work at when I return ...) and bid farewell to, well, everything magical that i just described

and to the islands of love
